Our Philosophy

Mares and Youngsters

Our mares, their foals and our colts were purchased from the Segura Bravo brand in Spain, and have tremendously important bloodlines that, as far as we know, are not present elsewhere in the United States. This lineage represents not only Terry, Urquijo, Bocado and Military lines, but the BEST of these lines. Marismeno VIII, the sire of Toledana XI and grandsire of Diamante XXXIX and Destinado L, was one of four improvement sires leased by the Spanish government and referred to as the "Blood of Gold." Devoto IV, grandsire of Urana VI and Escogido XXV, was also given this prestigious title. Our mares and babies are characterized by exceptional beauty, outstanding movement and truly exclusive pedigrees.

Limosnero IV
(Reference Photo)
Limosnero IV is the silver, pure Carthusian sire of our 2005 foals, Favorito and Festiva, as well as our 2006 foals Atlantica and Amaru, shown below. Our mares Urana and Toledana have once again produced truly exceptional foals and we feel so fortunate to have the bloodlines of this magnificent stallion in our breeding program.

Mares

Uraña VI
Imported Grey Carthusian Mare
(Llanto II x Bailaora XI)
Born 1997
Uraña is our second mare and the dam of our third, Festiva, who speaks to Uraña's quality as a breeding mare by being the most charismatic and beautiful foal we've ever seen. Uraña not only produces truly incredible babies, but is the kindest, most elegant and feminine horse with the face of an angel and a classical build that reflects the purity of her lineage. Her gentleness is matched only by her ethereal beauty, and she is a priceless treasure to us and our breeding program.

Toledana XI
Imported Grey Carthusian Mare
(Marismeno VIII x Farruca VI)
Born 1996
Toledana is our first mare and a Carthusian beauty of remarkable size and breeding. She is 17.1h tall with powerful, elevated and straight movement, an intelligent eye and excellent conformation for dressage. She is bold and expressive, kind and generous, everything we look for in a broodmare. Her foals are tall and gorgeous with exceptional movement and clever, willing temperaments. Toledana is a mare who was never supposed to leave Spain, and did so under very rare circumstances. We are very lucky to have her!

Festiva XXVIII
(Urana VI x Limosnero IV)
Festiva is the dynamic future broodmare of Paradise Mountain Ranch, who was so independent at 3 months of age that she led herself off the trailer from Spain! She is complex and full of joy, and she spends so much time with us it is almost difficult to see her as a horse. Everyone at the ranch is obsessively in love with her, and we cannot wait to watch her mature. Not only is her personality completely amazing, but her face is a perfect recreation of her mother's, she is turning silver and she moves as well as her incredible sire who has explosive, STRAIGHT movement! Festiva is the horse we have always dreamed of, and we simply cannot believe how fortunate we are to have her in our lives.

Atlantica
(Toledana XI x Limosnero IV)

Nobody can really tell you or prepare you for what it is to be present at the birth of your first foal. We adore her. She is our constant companion and playmate. We are so excited to have another girl to join Festiva.. In ‘Tika’, Toledana has reproduced herself again, as with Favorito (her full brother). She is a powerhouse, the quintessential sporthorse type, but with the grace and bearing of a PRE.
We try our best, through love, buckets, the best food and care possible, to express our deep gratitude to our beloved mares, but it will never be enough. The gift they have given us is beyond measure, They went through so much to come here, taken from their herd to quarantine, the long haul from Madrid to Amsterdam, the long flight to the U.S., more quarantine and finally to their new home where crazy people watched over them day and night when all they wanted to do was have their babies in peace, like they always had. They teach us every day about strength, patience and grace. Blessed are the broodmares indeed.

We are not expecting 2008 foals of our own as we are giving our mares the year off from breeding.

Colts

Favorito CXX
(Toledana XI x Limosnero IV)
(Inscribed) This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a stallion prospect of this lineage, quality and beauty! Favorito is a huge, silver imported colt with a powerful sporthorse build, incredible movement, and the pedigree of a king. His sire is a pure Carthusian of unimaginable beauty and was recently exported from Spain to Mexico, his dam is mostly Carthusian and is one of the most stunning mares we have ever seen (she is also 17.1h!) His qualities are a reflection of his royal breeding: both of his grandsires, Devoto IV and Marismeno VIII, were referred to as the 'blood of gold' by the Spanish government who leased them to improve the breed. Favorito is a luminous blue silver, and he gets more beautiful every day! It has been a great joy to watch Favorito mature from a shy 3 month old (when he arrived from Spain) to the handsome, outgoing horse he is now. He is a horse to make your dreams come true, please stop by and meet him! $35,000 - Video available.

Amaru
(Urana VI x Limosnero IV)
This little guy is so well put together that we cannot wait to see how he will turn out as he matures! What is most captivating about him though is that he has his mama's angelic face. Ru has developed into an exceptional colt. He is 15 hands as a yearling and is gorgeous, with extravagant movement and a face as beautiful as his dam’s! He has a wonderful temperament, and is very sweet and gregarious. See descriptions of his dam and sire above. He is offered for sale to an approved home for 25,000.

Foals

Bestial
(Urana VI x Justiciero XXV)
This is our first foal that we have bred ourselves and there truly are no words to say how pleased we are! Bestial is the best of both of his parents. He is huge, stunning, extremely athletic, and possesses tons of personality!

We advocate late and gentle weaning, separating weanlings from mom slowly over a couple of weeks and then pasturing them next to one another for about 6 weeks until fully weaned. We then put them back together for as long as possible for the colts, usually about 18 months, when they are moved to a "big boy" pasture with other colts, or geldings. Research has shown that the dam still has much to teach a young horse about socialization and their environment long after we typically separate moms and babies permanently, so we keep them together as long as possible towards the goal of the best possibly adjusted youngsters and have found this to work very well.
